Mr. Calvin Scott, Director Of Bands

Mr. Calvin Scott is a native of Hawkinsville, Georgia and an Alumni of Hawkinsville High School, Home of the Hawkinsville Red Devils! Mr. Scott is a graduate of Troy University, having received both his Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees. Mr. Scott is an alumnus and former Head Drum Major of The Sound of the South Marching Band (2000-2004). In addition to performing with the Sound of the South Marching Band, Mr. Scott also performed for the Troy State University Collegiate Singers, Chamber Choir, Jazz Bands (trumpet & piano), Gospel Choir, and performed in the Spring 2001 "Hello Dolly" theater production. During his first year at Troy State, the late Mr. Robert W. Smith, renowned composer, arranger, and former Director of Bands, invited Mr. Scott to sing on many occasions as a guest soloist with the Troy State University Symphony Band. 

Mr. Scott and his family recently moved to the Phenix City/Smiths Station area from Dothan, Alabama, where they resided for many years. Prior to joining the Phenix City School System, Mr. Scott taught for the Ozark City and Troy City Schools as a band and choral director. He taught the Troy University Bands Summer Drum Major & Leadership Camp from 2007-2019 as the Head Clinician. Mr. Scott has also toured the country with the 21-time DCI World Champion Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps. Mr. Scott has also served as a guest clinician for honor bands, an adjudicator for marching band competitions throughout Georgia and Alabama, and has facilitated leadership training for high school band leadership teams.

Mr. Scott is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, Phi Boota Roota, National Percussion Fraternity, The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He is also a member of Humphrey's Pride/Dothan Choice #344, Masonic Lodge, Wiregrass Consistory 32nd #229, and Ta-Seti Shriners Temple No. 253, all Prince Hall Affiliated. His professional affiliations include the Alabama Music Educators Association, the Alabama Bandmasters Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the Alabama Education Association.

In 2003, Mr. Scott met his college sweetheart, then Ms. LaShay Parrish, who was a member of the Sound of the South Colorguard. They later married in the summer of 2005 and now have three sons; Nick, Spencer, and Keelin. Their boys are students within the Phenix City Schools System. Their two older sons, Nick (Senior) and Spencer (Sophomore), attend Central High School, and Keelin is in kindergarten at Lakewood Primary School. When not in the full swing of the band, the Scott's enjoy spending time together as a family traveling and attending various family gatherings.
